Convicted child abuser Nicholas Carter was captured by two jurors after attempting to flee a Skowhegan courthouse in handcuffs following his guilty verdict.
BollywoodFever: A convicted child abuser, Nicholas Carter, 31, attempted a daring escape from a Maine courtroom on Wednesday but was quickly subdued by two jurors who had just helped convict him.
Carter, who had been found guilty of aggravated assault against a 14-month-old child, made a run for it while still in handcuffs after a judge ordered him to jail to await sentencing.
Video footage published by Maine’s Morning Sentinel shows Carter bolting out of the Skowhegan courthouse as an officer tries unsuccessfully to stop him.
Carter, standing at 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 150 pounds, managed to evade those in the courtroom, crossing the street after exiting the building.
His escape attempt was short-lived, however, as he tripped and fell in a nearby yard. It was there that two bystanders—who were later revealed to be jurors from the courtroom—stepped in and subdued him until law enforcement arrived.
Carter is now back in custody, and his sentencing for the aggravated assault conviction is pending.
