Russell’s basketball career began in high school, where he played for Montverde Academy in Florida. He was a highly touted recruit and was ranked among the top prospects in the country. In 2014, he committed to play college basketball for Ohio State University.
During his freshman year at Ohio State, Russell was one of the top players in the country. He averaged 19.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 5 assists per game and was named to the All-Big Ten First Team. After just one year in college, he declared for the NBA draft.
