The film was launched as ” Bodyguard” with Anil Kapoor , Sunny Deol and Zeba Bhaktiar. When Zeba had to leave the country due to VISA issues the script was changed to a comedy and Sunny Deol also opted out . Shah Rukh Khan was signed for Govinda’s role. Due to date hassles he also opted out . That’s when David Dhawan asked his favorite Govinda to do the role.

The film was released on the same day as another David Dhawan film, Mr. & Mrs. Khiladi (1997).

Mamta Kulkarni was signed when Zeba exited the film.

Salman Khan made a surprise appearance in the end those days it was a trend a major hero or heroine would make a surprise appearance in the end.
