Deion Sanders faces backlash for keeping Colorado’s offense aggressive late in a 28-9 win against Colorado State, sparking concerns about unnecessary risk to QB Shedeur Sanders.
BollywoodFever: Deion Sanders, head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, is under scrutiny for his late-game decisions during the team’s 28-9 victory over Colorado State.
Despite holding a comfortable lead, Sanders continued to call passing plays late in the fourth quarter, raising eyebrows from CBS announcers Rich Waltz and Ross Tucker.
With just over a minute left and a 19-point lead, Colorado attempted a fourth-down pass, leaving quarterback Shedeur Sanders vulnerable to a hit.
While the pass fell incomplete, the move drew sharp criticism from Tucker, who questioned the risk taken with Shedeur’s health.
“They are fortunate that this wasn’t a bigger hit,” Tucker said during the broadcast. Can you imagine what we would be saying all week if Shedeur Sanders got his throwing arm hit in a game where they’re up 19?
The CBS commentators speculated that the aggressive playcalling may have come from Deion Sanders, potentially overriding offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur.
Tucker noted that a veteran coach like Shurmur would likely have opted to run out the clock rather than risk an injury to the quarterback.
Shedeur Sanders finished the game with 310 passing yards and four touchdowns, but the decision to keep him in a vulnerable position late in the game left many questioning the rationale behind the move.
