Denzel Washington hints at possible retirement, revealing a selective approach to future projects. The Oscar winner is inspired to join Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator 2” as Macrinus, with the film set for release on Nov. 22.

Bollywood Fever: Denzel Washington has sparked speculation among fans about a potential retirement from acting following his recent interview with Empire magazine.

The Oscar-winning actor opened up about his selective approach to future film roles and his reasons for joining Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated Gladiator 2, set nearly 20 years after the original.

“There are very few films left for me to make that I’m interested in, and I have to be inspired by the filmmaker, and I was tremendously inspired by Ridley,” Washington shared with Empire

His words hint at a more discerning phase in his illustrious career, where the filmmaker’s vision and the project’s significance play a crucial role in his decision-making.

Washington’s collaboration with Scott isn’t new; the two previously worked together on the 2007 film American Gangster

Reflecting on their reunion, Washington expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We had a great go-round the first go-round [on American Gangster], and here we are.”

Despite losing one of his favorite collaborators, Tony Scott, Ridley’s brother, in 2012, Washington remains excited about teaming up with Ridley again.

“Obviously, both are great filmmakers,” Washington noted. “They can’t miss.” The Training Day actor also praised Scott’s relentless energy on set, saying, “He’s engaged.

He’s excited about life and his next film. He’s an inspiration. We should all want to feel like that at 86.”

Although Washington didn’t explicitly state how many more films he plans to take on, his comments suggest that his filmography may soon become more limited.

However, fans can eagerly anticipate his portrayal of Macrinus in Gladiator 2. Describing his character, Washington revealed, “He’s a wealthy arms dealer who wants to be Emperor, and he’s willing to do anything to get there.”

Gladiator 2, which also features an impressive cast including Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, and Joseph Quinn, is set to hit theaters on November 22.

As one of Hollywood’s most celebrated actors, Washington’s involvement in the film adds to the excitement surrounding this long-awaited sequel. Whether or not this marks one of his final roles, his presence on screen remains as powerful as ever.
