Derrick Brown, the Pro Bowl defensive end, signs a significant four-year, $96 million extension with the Carolina Panthers, including $63.1 million guaranteed, following a record-setting performance and demonstrating his critical role in the team’s defensive lineup.
Pro Bowl defensive end Derrick Brown has committed to the Carolina Panthers with a four-year, $96 million contract extension, featuring $63.1 million guaranteed, as confirmed by his representatives Drew Rosenhaus, Jason Rosenhaus, and Robert Bailey.
Selected in the first round of the 2020 draft from Auburn, Brown has emerged as a formidable force on the defensive line, notably setting a new NFL record for tackles by a defensive lineman with 103 last season, surpassing the previous record of 98 held by Miami’s Christian Wilkins in 2022. This record-breaking performance comes in a lineage of achievements since tackles were officially recorded as an NFL stat in 1994.
Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 320 pounds, Brown demonstrated his durability and skill by participating in 89% of the Panthers’ defensive snaps last season.
His trajectory pointed towards a standout season, especially after setting a team record for tackles by a lineman with 67 in 2022. Brown elevated his performance significantly last season with the Panthers’ shift to a 3-4 defensive scheme under the guidance of coordinator Ejiro Evero.
Over his four-year tenure with the Panthers, Brown has accumulated 245 tackles and eight sacks.
Heading into the final year of his rookie contract, Brown was poised to earn $11.7 million in 2024 before securing this lucrative extension.
