Desmond Bane: Elite Finisher at the Rim
Standing at 6’5″, Desmond Bane is one of the most efficient finishers at the rim among players in his height range. According to recent data, Bane converts an impressive 60.9% of his layup attempts, placing him alongside some of the league’s best finishers between 6’3″ and 6’5″, such as Josh Hart (64.1%) and De’Aaron Fox (62.9%).
This finishing ability has become a key part of Bane’s game, complementing his elite three-point shooting. During the 2023-24 season, Bane averaged a career-high 23.7 points per game on 46.4% shooting from the field, solidifying himself as one of the Grizzlies’ top offensive weapons. His efficiency at the rim, combined with his long-range accuracy, makes Bane a multi-dimensional threat for the Memphis offense.
Jaren Jackson Jr.: Struggles at the Rim
On the other hand, Jaren Jackson Jr., who stands at 6’11”, has struggled with his layup efficiency. Over the last three seasons, Jackson has converted just 50.2% of his layup attempts, placing him among the least efficient finishers for players in the 6’9″ to 6’11” height range. Despite these struggles, Jackson had an overall strong 2023-24 season, averaging a career-high 22.5 points per game, along with 5.5 rebounds and 1.6 blocks. While his defense remains a cornerstone of his game, improving his finishing around the basket would elevate his offensive impact and help him become a more balanced player.
