The Detroit Lions will host the Seattle Seahawks in Week 4’s Monday Night Football. With injuries piling up, the Lions must rely on Jared Goff, their run defense, and pass rush to secure a victory.
BollywoodFever: The Detroit Lions (2-1) are set to host the undefeated Seattle Seahawks (3-0) in a highly anticipated Monday Night Football matchup at Ford Field in Week 4. The Lions are coming off a hard-fought 20-13 win against the Arizona Cardinals but are dealing with key injuries ahead of the game, including Frank Ragnow and Sam LaPorta.
On the other side, the Seahawks, under first-year head coach Mike Macdonald, have made a strong start, allowing fewer than 150 passing yards per game through three games, a feat only matched by the 1979 Pittsburgh Steelers.
Here are three keys for the Lions to secure a victory and end their six-game losing streak against Seattle.
1. Jared Goff Must Build on Last Week’s Performance
Lions quarterback Jared Goff had his best game of the season against Arizona, but he’ll face a much stiffer challenge against a Seahawks defense that has excelled against the pass. Seattle has allowed just 473 passing yards and one passing touchdown in three games, ranking among the league’s best. For Detroit to win, Goff must replicate his Week 3 performance, where he threw for 323 yards and three touchdowns.
2. Stop the Run and Force Seattle to Pass
The Lions boast one of the NFL’s top rushing defenses, allowing only 230 rushing yards this season. Kenneth Walker III may return for the Seahawks after missing two games, making it crucial for Detroit to control the ground game. If Detroit can stop the run and force Seattle into a pass-heavy attack, it will increase their chances of victory.
3. Pour on the Pressure Against Geno Smith
Detroit’s pass rush, led by Aidan Hutchinson, will be key to disrupting Seattle quarterback Geno Smith. Hutchinson leads the league with 6.5 sacks and will look to exploit Seattle’s struggling offensive line, which ranks 25th according to Pro Football Focus. Pressuring Smith will be critical in limiting Seattle’s offensive output.
As Detroit aims to hand Seattle its first loss of the season, the Lions’ ability to execute these key strategies will determine their success on Monday night.
