Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone praises new signing Julian Alvarez, who recently joined from Manchester City. Alvarez could feature in Atletico’s LaLiga opener against Villarreal.
Bollywood Fever: Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has expressed high expectations for his new signing, Julian Alvarez, as the 24-year-old Argentine forward prepares to make his potential debut in the LaLiga opener against Villarreal on Monday. Alvarez joined Atletico Madrid last week from Manchester City in a deal reportedly worth around €75 million ($82.7 million).
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Simeone shared his excitement about Alvarez’s arrival and praised the forward’s quick adaptation to the team. “Julian is a player we are all looking forward to seeing and who will help us to be better. It was all very sudden, so quick. He just arrived a little while ago, has been training for four days but has been adapting fast,” Simeone said.
Simeone believes Alvarez’s qualities align well with Atletico’s style of play. “I see him with a lot of enthusiasm, knowing where he is coming from and understanding where he is heading towards. His characteristics fit to the Atleti DNA,” the manager added.
Despite spending over €150 million on Alvarez, Euro 2024-winning defender Robin Le Normand, and last season’s LaLiga top scorer Alexander Sorloth, Simeone downplayed title expectations for the upcoming season. With negotiations ongoing to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, Simeone emphasized the need for further reinforcements to remain competitive against a strong Real Madrid side.
“Real Madrid start the season as the best team and will have to prove it with the wonderful players they have, while all the rest of us will be behind to compete against them,” Simeone noted. He also acknowledged the quality of their rivals, stating, “Barcelona continue to have a very good team, Real continue to grow with players who are phenomenal, but it’s clear for me that we have to think about ourselves.”
As Atletico Madrid prepares to kick off their LaLiga campaign, all eyes will be on Julian Alvarez and how he fits into Simeone’s plans for the season.
