Nebraska Cornhuskers quarterback Dylan Raiola’s 36-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Neyor was overturned in a close game against Illinois, resulting in an interception.
BollywoodFever: Nebraska Cornhuskers quarterback Dylan Raiola appeared to have connected on a 36-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Isaiah Neyor during the second quarter of their Big Ten opener against the Illinois Fighting Illini.
However, the play was overturned and ruled an interception by Illinois defensive back Torrie Cox Jr., changing the momentum of the game.
The play was initially ruled a touchdown, with Neyor seemingly coming down with the ball in the end zone.
But upon further review, officials determined that Cox had successfully wrestled the ball away as the two players hit the ground, resulting in Raiola’s second interception of the season.
Under college football rules, tie possessions typically favor the receiver, but the review showed that Cox got his arm in just as they were falling, stripping the ball from Neyor.
Had Neyor maintained possession all the way to the ground, the play would have stood as a touchdown.
The Huskers and Fighting Illini remain locked in a close contest as they kick off Big Ten play in front of Nebraska’s historic 400th consecutive sellout crowd.
