A severe illness outbreak at Club Mermaid Village in Turkey has left multiple holidaymakers, including children, hospitalized. Families are sharing their harrowing experiences.
BollywoodFever: Holidaymakers at the four-star Club Mermaid Village resort near Alanya, Turkey, have reported a viral outbreak, with several guests, including children, falling seriously ill.
Ambulances have been seen arriving at the hotel, and reports suggest that at least 28 people have been affected by what is believed to be a bacterial or gastroenteritis bug.
One family from Failsworth, Oldham, shared that they have been confined to their room for days, avoiding hotel food and the swimming pools due to concerns over the illness.
Sade Ingram, 32, from Sheffield, recounted a terrifying ordeal where her seven-year-old daughter, Phoebe, was hospitalized after becoming severely dehydrated.
“We thought she was going to die,” Sade revealed. “She was so dehydrated that she was hallucinating and had turned yellow. The hospital staff were amazing, but the hotel didn’t listen when we raised concerns.”
Many guests have joined a WhatsApp group to share their experiences, posting photos of ambulances outside the hotel and sick children in hospital beds.Â
Families have expressed their frustration with the resort’s lack of action to contain the illness. Sade and others resorted to eating noodles purchased from a local shop to avoid hotel food, which they fear may be the cause of the sickness.
Another holidaymaker, Ceri George, 36, from Oldham, also detailed her family’s harrowing experience, describing how her baby, who has a weakened immune system, and her two other children were all confined to their room. There have been multiple hospitalizations due to the bug, and the hotel has not taken responsibility,” she said.
Several guests reported seeing hotel staff who appeared ill still working and serving food. Despite numerous complaints, many guests felt the hotel did not make efforts to contain the outbreak, leading to more people becoming ill.
Both On the Beach and loveholidays, the companies through which many guests booked their stays, have launched investigations. A spokesperson for On the Beach stated, “We take all claims of sickness seriously and are investigating with the hotel.” The company has offered a gesture of goodwill to affected guests.
As the investigations continue, many families have expressed their disappointment with their holiday, with some returning home still feeling unwell after what was meant to be a relaxing getaway turned into a nightmare.
