A fatal collision between a Tesla Model 3 and a double decker bus near York resulted in one death and five injuries. Police are seeking witnesses and dashcam footage.
North Yorkshire, Bollywood Fever: A man has died, and five others were injured following a collision between a Tesla and a double decker bus near York.
Emergency services responded promptly to the crash on the B1224 Wetherby Road, near Rufforth, at approximately 9:20 am on Saturday. The incident involved a white Tesla Model 3 and a double decker bus. Two air ambulances, three additional ambulance vehicles, a Hazardous Area Response Team, and North Yorkshire Police attended the scene.
Police reported that a 31-year-old man from Newcastle, a passenger in the Tesla, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been informed and is receiving support from officers. Four other passengers in the Tesla and the bus driver were also taken to the hospital.
The Tesla driver, a 32-year-old man from Teesside, sustained serious injuries. Three other passengers in the Tesla and the bus driver were treated for minor injuries at the hospital.
The B1224 was closed for police investigation but reopened at 5:25 pm. North Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash.
The police statement reads: “North Yorkshire Police is appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage after a fatal collision between a white Tesla Model 3 car and a blue and white double decker bus on the B1224 Wetherby Road, close to the junction with the A1237, at around 9:20 am on Saturday (29 June 2024).
“Sadly, a passenger in the Tesla, a 31-year-old man from the Newcastle area, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His family has been informed and is receiving support. The driver of the Tesla, a 32-year-old man from the Teesside area, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
“Three other passengers in the Tesla and the driver of the bus were treated at the hospital for minor injuries. The B1224 road closure remained in place until 5:25 pm. Witnesses to the collision or anyone with relevant dashcam footage are urged to come forward without delay if they have not done so already. We also want to hear from anyone who recalls seeing either the white Tesla car or the blue and white double decker bus in the lead-up to the incident.”
