Germany, Bollywood Fever: More than 20 people were injured on Saturday evening after a Ferris wheel caught fire at the Highfield Festival near Leipzig, Germany.Â
The incident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. local time, with images showing two carriages engulfed in flames and smoke billowing into the sky.
According to a statement from Saxony police, the cause of the fire remains unclear. Four people suffered burn injuries, and another individual was treated for injuries sustained from a fall.
Additionally, 18 people, including first responders, police officers, and festival attendees who were on the ride, were exposed to smoke and taken to hospitals for treatment.
Authorities have launched an investigation, and the area around the Ferris wheel has been cordoned off.
German rapper Ski Aggu was performing onstage when the fire broke out. He later expressed his shock and dismay over the incident on Instagram.
Aggu revealed that he was advised not to cancel his performance to prevent mass panic among the festivalgoers, instead maintaining communication with the crowd.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing as authorities work to determine what led to the tragic incident.
