After the death of French film legend Alain Delon, concerns arose about his beloved dog Loubo’s fate. The family has confirmed that Loubo will continue to live at their home in Douchy.
Bollywood Fever: Before his passing this week, French film icon Alain Delon had expressed a wish that sparked concern among animal lovers across France.
Delon, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 88, had suggested in a 2018 interview that he wanted his cherished sheepdog, Loubo, to be buried with him. Fortunately, to the relief of many, Loubo will be allowed to live on.
Delon, renowned internationally for his prolific career as an actor and producer, will be laid to rest on Saturday at his family home in Douchy, located south of Paris.
The Belgian Malinois, whom Delon adopted in 2014, had held a special place in the star’s heart. In the interview with Paris Match, Delon said, “I’ve had 50 dogs in my life, but I have a particular relationship with this one.
If I die before him, I’ll ask the veterinarian for us to leave together. … I’d prefer that to knowing that he would let himself die on my tomb amid so much suffering.”
Following Delon’s death, animal rights activists and concerned citizens voiced their worries about Loubo’s future.
The Society for Protection of Animals in France even offered to find the dog a new home, while the Brigitte Bardot Foundation, an animal rights group founded by Delon’s close friend and fellow French film star Brigitte Bardot, received numerous inquiries from members worried about Loubo.
An official from the Brigitte Bardot Foundation reached out to Delon’s family and was assured that the beloved dog would not be put down. “The question was not even raised, and they would let the dog live.
They said he has a home in Douchy, and will live there,” the official confirmed, speaking anonymously due to the foundation’s communication policies.
Delon had long been a supporter of the foundation, helping to raise funds for its causes over the years.
Delon’s family has chosen not to publicly comment on Loubo’s situation, focusing instead on their private grief.
Alain Delon was one of France’s most iconic leading men, leaving a lasting legacy in cinema. In addition to his work in film, he was also a producer and appeared in theater and television.
As his fans and family prepare to say their final goodbyes, they can take comfort in knowing that his loyal companion, Loubo, will continue to live on in the home they shared.
