News anchor Gayle King was chosen as one of the cover models for this year’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue, marking the 60th edition in the iconic magazine’s history.
King expressed her joy and surprise at the opportunity, stating, “I never in a million years thought I would be standing here in a bathing suit for Sports Illustrated [Swimsuit], but here I am, which says to me that sometimes people can dream, God can dream, the universe can dream a bigger dream than you can ever think for yourself. I would have never thought this was possible. This was nowhere on my bucket list. So I’m thinking maybe it was a dream that I didn’t even know I wanted because now that I’m here, I want it bad.”
Even her ex-husband, William Bumpus, who was married to King from 1982-93, shared his excitement about the cover. In a statement to Page Six Sunday, Bumpus humorously remarked, “Well, I can mark off one more item on my highly unlikely to ever happen bucket list! My teenage fantasy of hooking up with a Sports Illustrated Model has finally come true. WOW! Bravo to you Gayle … You Look Fantastic! Bravo to Sports Illustrated for selecting YOU!”
