No. 1 Georgia barely escapes Kentucky with a 13-12 win as Heisman candidate Carson Beck appears to injure his shoulder. The Bulldogs now look ahead to a crucial game against Alabama.
BollywoodFever: The No. 1-ranked Georgia Bulldogs narrowly avoided an upset in a 13-12 road victory against the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday, September 14.
However, the close game wasn’t the only concern for Georgia, as Heisman candidate and starting quarterback Carson Beck appeared to injure his shoulder during the contest.
Molly McGrath of ABC’s broadcast team noted that Beck was favoring his shoulder throughout the game and questioned him about it during a postgame interview.
Beck reassured fans, saying, “I’ll be fine,” but added, “Thank God we got a bye week, that’s all I gotta say.” While Beck’s response offered some relief, his comments about the upcoming rest week may raise concerns among Georgia fans.
Despite Beck’s assurance, the Bulldogs’ offensive struggles in Lexington were apparent. Georgia, which had dominated its first two opponents this season, winning 34-3 over Clemson and 48-3 against Tennessee Tech, struggled to pull away from Kentucky.
Beck had a modest performance, completing 15-of-24 passes for 160 yards and adding 18 rushing yards.
Georgia’s defense ultimately held strong to secure the victory, but the Bulldogs will need to be at their best for their next matchup — a highly anticipated showdown against the No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa in two weeks.
With Beck nursing a potential injury, Georgia will need him to be at full strength to maintain their top spot in college football.
