Earkavion Lee, a 15-year-old student at Kendrick High School in Columbus, Georgia, was tragically shot and killed after getting off a school bus. Police are investigating.
BollywoodFever: A tragic shooting claimed the life of 15-year-old Earkavion Lee on Thursday afternoon in Columbus, Georgia, after he had just stepped off his school bus.
The incident took place around 4:30 p.m., with Earkavion succumbing to his injuries about 45 minutes later, according to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan.
Earkavion was a ninth-grade student at Kendrick High School. His death marks a second heartbreaking loss for the family this year, as his brother, Earkus Porter, was also fatally shot in a park in February.
“There’s something extra wrong about this,” said Columbus Mayor Skip Henderson. “This kid was getting off the school bus where he was supposed to be safe.”
Henderson expressed his deep sorrow, calling the act “senseless” and vowing that law enforcement would not rest until the perpetrators are found.
No arrests have been made, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
The Muscogee County School District echoed the mayor’s sentiment, calling the shooting “senseless” and offering condolences to Earkavion’s family and school community. “The safety and well-being of our students are always our top priorities,” the district said in a statement.
Anyone with further information is encouraged to contact authorities at 706-225-4363.
