With Daniel Jones underperforming, the New York Giants may target rival QB Dak Prescott, who is expected to hit free agency after the 2024 season.
Bollywood Fever: The New York Giants face serious uncertainty at quarterback as Daniel Jones enters his sixth year with the franchise. With Jones struggling to live up to expectations, the Giants could be in line for a major upgrade—and one from a division rival.
Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys are nearing their season opener without a contract extension, sparking rumors that the Pro Bowl QB could hit free agency after the 2024 season. According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Prescott is now likely to test the market, making him a prime target for quarterback-needy teams like the Giants.
Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report listed the Giants as the No. 4 destination for Prescott, highlighting the potential appeal of stealing him from a division rival. Prescott, a proven NFL talent who finished second in MVP voting last season, could be the upgrade the Giants need after Jones’ disappointing 2023 performance, where he went 1-5 as a starter, threw just two touchdowns to six interceptions, and posted a 70.5 quarterback rating.
Should Jones continue to struggle in 2024, the Giants could save $30.5 million in cap space by releasing him with a post-June 1 designation in 2025. While quarterbacks like Carson Beck, Quinn Ewers, and Shedeur Sanders are intriguing prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft, Prescott’s experience and ability to deliver results would make him a more reliable choice.
The Giants are projected to have $44.2 million in available cap space in 2025, putting them in a strong position to offer Prescott a competitive contract. With Prescott expected to command $55.1 million annually on his next deal, the Giants could be one of the few teams financially positioned to meet those demands.
