The New York Giants have re-signed cornerback Adoree’ Jackson to a one-year deal, aiming to strengthen their secondary following preseason struggles. Jackson returns to the Giants after a challenging 2023 season.
Bollywood Fever: The New York Giants have made a significant move to reinforce their secondary by re-signing cornerback Adoree’ Jackson to a one-year deal, as reported by Ian Rapoport.
The contract’s value has not yet been disclosed. This decision follows preseason struggles at the second boundary corner position, where Cor’Dale Flott and Nick McCloud failed to secure the starting role with confidence.
Giants general manager Joe Schoen had earlier expressed his confidence in the team’s secondary, despite the challenges faced during the preseason.
However, with the start of the regular season looming, the Giants turned to a familiar face in Jackson to provide stability and experience.
Jackson, who spent the last three seasons with the Giants, recorded two interceptions, including a pick-six, 23 passes defended, and 176 tackles during his tenure.
However, his 2023 season was marked by a dip in performance, as he posted the worst coverage metrics of his career, allowing a significant number of yards and earning a low coverage grade according to Pro Football Focus.
The question remains whether Jackson’s struggles last season were due to an athletic decline or the heavy responsibilities placed on him in defensive coordinator Wink Martindale’s system.
The Giants are hopeful that defensive coordinator Shane Bowen’s scheme, which is known to be more cornerback-friendly, will help Jackson regain his form and contribute to more ball production.
Jackson is expected to compete immediately for a starting spot in the Giants’ lineup. At the very least, he brings valuable leadership to a young and inexperienced secondary, along with his ability to return punts.
His first test will come in Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings, where he’ll have the opportunity to prove that he can still be a reliable presence in the Giants’ defense.
The signing of Jackson not only addresses the immediate need for experience in the secondary but also reflects the Giants’ commitment to fielding a competitive defense as they enter the new season.
