Guenther Steiner Criticizes Red Bull’s Complacency, Calls Monza Strategy ‘Arrogant’

Haas team principal Guenther Steiner criticizes Red Bull Racing’s recent decisions, calling their lack of a Monza-specific aero kit a sign of complacency and arrogance.

Bollywood Fever: Haas team principal Guenther Steiner has taken aim at Red Bull Racing, criticizing the team’s recent decisions regarding their RB21 Formula 1 car.

Speaking on the Red Flags podcast, Steiner suggested that Red Bull’s lack of development for the Italian Grand Prix at Monza could be a sign of complacency.

Steiner pointed out that Red Bull was the only team not to bring a specific aerodynamic kit for Monza, a track known for its high-speed demands.

“Max [Verstappen] said they didn’t have a special Monza spec – they didn’t develop one – and I think that came out of [their early F1 2024 dominance],” Steiner explained.

He went on to label Red Bull’s decision as “almost arrogance,” indicating that the team’s early-season success may have led to overconfidence.

Red Bull has had a dominant presence in Formula 1, winning 21 out of 22 races last year, with Max Verstappen securing his third consecutive World Championship.

Despite a strong start to the 2024 season, winning four of the first five races, the team’s momentum has since slowed.

Verstappen has not won a race since June, even though he remains well ahead in the championship standings.

Steiner’s criticism focused on Red Bull’s decision-making process, particularly the lack of a Monza-specific aero package, which other teams invested heavily in.

He stated, “When you start to think about the Monza spec, you’re developing it at the beginning of the year… and here you are, you needed a Monza spec, because everybody else brought quite a big package for it.”

As the season progresses, Steiner believes Red Bull’s recent missteps could impact their performance, not just this year but also in future seasons.

The team must now refocus and address these issues if they wish to maintain their position at the top of the Formula 1 grid.
