Gunmen killed 23 passengers in a brutal attack in Pakistan’s Baluchistan province. Authorities condemn the violence and vow to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Bollywood Fever: In one of the deadliest attacks in recent years, gunmen fatally shot 23 passengers after forcibly removing them from buses, vehicles, and trucks in the restive southwestern region of Pakistan, officials reported on Monday.
The attack took place overnight in the Musakhail district of Baluchistan province, according to senior police official Ayub Achakzai.
The assailants also set fire to at least 10 vehicles before fleeing the scene.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attack as “barbaric” in separate statements, vowing that those responsible would face justice.
The massacre occurred just hours after the outlawed Baluch Liberation Army (BLA) separatist group issued a warning for people to avoid highways, though no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
Baluchistan has long been plagued by a low-level insurgency, with separatist groups frequently targeting workers and residents from Pakistan’s eastern Punjab region in an effort to force them out of the province.
Many of these attacks have been attributed to the BLA and other groups seeking independence from the central government in Islamabad.
Additionally, Islamic militants are known to operate in the province, further contributing to the region’s instability.
