Bollywood Fever: In a heartbreaking incident, 23-year-old Czech gymnast Natalie Stichova tragically lost her life after falling more than 260 feet while attempting to take a selfie at the Tegelberg Mountain in Bavaria, Germany.
The mountain is home to Neuschwanstein Castle, the iconic structure believed to have inspired Walt Disney’s Sleeping Beauty castle.
The accident occurred on August 15 while Natalie, an avid traveler and athlete, was hiking with her boyfriend David and two other friends.
The group had reached a spot near the edge of the mountain, where Natalie attempted to set up a picture of the breathtaking view.
Unfortunately, she was standing precariously close to the edge when she slipped and fell 262 feet (80 meters).
Natalie survived the initial impact and was quickly airlifted to a nearby hospital.
However, the young woman suffered irreversible brain damage, and after six days of battling for her life, her family made the difficult decision to take her off life support on August 21.
A friend of Natalie’s, who wished to remain anonymous, shared with German media that the exact cause of her fall remains uncertain. “We will never find out whether she slipped or whether a piece of the rock edge broke off,” the friend said. The tragic event has left those who knew Natalie in deep mourning.
Natalie, a talented gymnast who had recently started training athletes in Czechia, was remembered fondly by those who knew her.
Her mother issued a heartfelt statement, saying, “There is no one who didn’t love her. Our Natalie was the sweetest person.”
The local gymnastics club, Sokol Pribram, where Natalie was both a member and a coach, paid tribute to her memory. “With deep sorrow, we announce that our wonderful friend, gymnast, representative, and coach, Natalie Stichova, has left us forever due to a tragic accident,” the club shared in a statement. “She lost her fight for life on August 21 at 5:30 am. Natalie spread smiles throughout her short life, and that is how we will remember her forever.”
The club also invited the community to honor Natalie’s memory by lighting a candle at their gymnasium, a touching gesture to remember the bright and talented young woman who was taken too soon.
