BollywoodFever: A paramedic’s heroic efforts to save a father of two after he suffered a heart attack on a Jet2 flight tragically ended in his death.
Chris Neill, 40, from Runcorn, Cheshire, was flying back home to Liverpool from Burgas, Bulgaria, when he suffered a fatal heart attack.
The plane made an emergency landing in Cologne, Germany, where Chris later passed away in the hospital.
Off-duty paramedic Rach-Victoria Leyland sprang into action when Chris began complaining of chest pains. Leyland quickly assessed that Chris was experiencing a “massive MI” (heart attack) and instructed the crew to make an emergency landing.
With the help of an off-duty nurse and the cabin crew, Chris was moved to the front of the plane for space in case he required further emergency care.
Despite immediate medical interventions, including chest compressions and the use of an AED, Chris tragically went into cardiac arrest.
His 19-year-old son, his son’s girlfriend, and his eight-year-old son were also on the flight, witnessing the heartbreaking scene.
After 30 minutes of emergency efforts, Chris was handed over to German medics upon landing but sadly passed away in the hospital.
Chris’s father, Mal Neill, is now raising funds to bring his son’s body home to the UK. In a touching tribute, Mal described his son as a “staunch Everton fan” who “lived life to the full” and cherished his children. “He was 6ft 4in, went to the gym every day, and was always full of fun and willing to help anyone,” Mal said.
Ms. Leyland expressed her sorrow over not being able to save Chris but is determined to support the family in repatriating his body.
She has connected with Chris’s father, Mal, and has been touched by his gratitude, receiving flowers and heartfelt messages in return.
For those interested in supporting the Neill family, a GoFundMe has been set up to assist with repatriation costs and funeral arrangements.
