Iga Swiatek Thrilled by “Ted Lasso” Star’s Support During U.S. Open Victory

Iga Swiatek gets a boost from “Ted Lasso” star Jason Sudeikis during her fourth-round U.S. Open win, reflecting on the show’s positive message. Serena Williams and other celebrities also make appearances.

Bollywood Fever: Top-seeded Iga Swiatek received an unexpected boost during her fourth-round match at the U.S. Open on Monday as Jason Sudeikis, the star of one of her favorite TV shows, Ted Lasso, showed up to watch her play at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The annual celebrity presence at the year’s final major tournament is in full swing, with regular attendees like Vogue editor Anna Wintour and comedic actor Ben Stiller.

Swiatek was particularly thrilled to spot Sudeikis in the stands as she secured a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Liudmila Samsonova.

“I actually tried to avoid looking at the screens, but I saw him tonight when I was looking at the chair umpire,” Swiatek said, expressing her admiration for the Apple TV show’s message of “positivity.” She added, “I wanted to stay focused and I hope he appreciates my mentality because this is what ‘Ted Lasso’ is all about.”

This wasn’t the first time Swiatek found herself feeling star-struck at Flushing Meadows. The world number one also had a chance encounter with 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams, who returned to the tournament for the first time since playing her final match there two years ago.

“It was nice that she approached me, because I wouldn’t, for sure, find the courage to do that if it was the other way around,” Swiatek admitted, reflecting on the brief but memorable interaction with the tennis legend.

While Swiatek is known for her reserved demeanor, not all players share the same level of modesty.

After his fourth-round win over Alexei Popyrin, American Frances Tiafoe took the opportunity to address Tony Goldwyn, a star from the TV show Scandal, who was also in the crowd.

“I’m a huge fan of you, bro,” Tiafoe said, enthusiastically gesturing toward Goldwyn. “Me and my girl used to watch Scandal all the time.”

The U.S. Open continues to be a magnet for celebrities, adding an extra layer of excitement for players and fans alike. As the tournament progresses, more stars are expected to make appearances, further fueling the electric atmosphere at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
