WNBA legend Nancy Lieberman compares Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark to pop superstar Taylor Swift, praising her fan loyalty and record-breaking impact on women’s basketball.
Bollywood Fever: Caitlin Clark, the Indiana Fever’s standout rookie, continues to make waves in the WNBA, with none other than Hall of Fame guard Nancy Lieberman calling her the “Taylor Swift of women’s basketball.”
Lieberman, a former WABA MVP and Sacramento Kings assistant, recently defended Clark from critics and praised her growing influence on and off the court.
Lieberman, known for her bold comparisons, has gone as far as to say her friendship with WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes ended due to disagreements about Clark’s rising star status.
After comparing the 22-year-old rookie to NBA icon Michael Jordan, Lieberman took it a step further, likening Clark to pop sensation Taylor Swift.
“It doesn’t matter who people fancy at the moment,” Lieberman said on SiriusXM NBA Radio. “It’s Caitlin Clark. She’s the Taylor Swift of women’s basketball right now. Her fans are like Swifties; they’re extraordinarily loyal. And in every arena you go into, half the people there are her fans wearing her jerseys. She’s a media superstar, but damn — she’s backed it up every step of the way.”
The comparison to Swift seems fitting, given Clark’s growing popularity. She has shattered WNBA records for television ratings, merchandise sales, and attendance numbers throughout the season.
Her popularity has even sparked resentment from opposing players, who have noted that Clark often has more supporters in their home arenas than they do.
A devoted Swift fan herself, Clark’s incredible performance has only fueled her star power. In August, she was named both the WNBA Player of the Month and Rookie of the Month.
Since the Olympic break, she’s averaged an impressive 24.5 points, nine assists, and 5.8 rebounds per game, showcasing her dominance on the court.
Caitlin Clark’s rise to superstardom mirrors that of Taylor Swift — both have built an incredibly loyal fanbase and continue to break records in their respective fields.
