Despite his stellar performance and recent contract extension, Buccaneers’ Mike Evans was omitted from an ESPN post highlighting top-paid wide receivers. Is this a sign of disrespect?
Bollywood Fever: This offseason has seen wide receivers across the NFL securing massive contracts, with Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ standout Mike Evans among those who have cashed in.
Evans, who signed a two-year, $52 million extension in March, continues to prove his worth, coming off another Pro Bowl season where he led the league in touchdown receptions and posted his second-highest career receiving yards at 1,255.
However, a recent post by ESPN’s Adam Schefter on X, which listed the top receivers who have landed big deals this offseason, notably excluded Evans.
The post highlighted the likes of Justin Jefferson, Amon-Ra St. Brown, CeeDee Lamb, and Brandon Aiyuk, but curiously left out the Buccaneers’ veteran star.
Whether this omission was an innocent mistake or a sign of disrespect is up for debate. Evans, after all, is a potential future Hall of Famer with 10 seasons under his belt and is aiming to extend his own NFL record with another 1,000-yard receiving season this year.
For Buccaneers fans, this omission feels like yet another slight against a team that has consistently performed at a high level.
Tampa Bay has made the playoffs for four consecutive years and boasts Pro Bowl and All-Pro talent across the field. Despite this, it seems the team—and its star players—are not getting the recognition they deserve.
Tampa Bay has enjoyed one of the more successful offseasons in the NFL, managing to retain key players with lucrative deals.
Yet, Evans’ exclusion from such a prominent post raises questions about whether the Buccaneers and their star wideout are being unjustly overlooked.
