After a standout second season, Dallas Cowboys’ tight end Jake Ferguson aims to improve even further in 2024, taking on a leadership role in Mike McCarthy’s offense.
Bollywood Fever: If you’re looking for a prime example of Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy’s “second-year leap” concept, look no further than tight end Jake Ferguson.
After a modest rookie season where he posted 174 yards and two touchdowns from 19 receptions, Ferguson exploded in his sophomore year with 71 receptions, 761 yards, and five touchdowns.
His transformation made him one of Dak Prescott’s go-to targets in 2023.
Despite his impressive growth, Ferguson remains grounded and focused on continual improvement as he prepares for the 2024 season.
“I think some yes, some no,” Ferguson said about entering the year with more confidence. “There’s a lot of work that I need to do, a lot of things I need to get better at, a lot of things I need to get more consistent at. That work doesn’t stop.”
Ferguson’s emergence allowed the Cowboys to move on from Dalton Schultz, leaving the third-year tight end as the leader of a young tight end group that includes Luke Schoonmaker, John Stephens Jr., and Brevy Spann-Ford under tight ends coach Lunda Wells.
With Ferguson leading the unit, Dallas appears well-positioned to continue thriving in McCarthy’s “Texas Coast Offense.”
Looking ahead, Ferguson isn’t satisfied with his rapid improvement. He’s determined to make another leap and become an even more integral part of the Cowboys’ offense, a mission that will only benefit Prescott and the team’s overall success.
As the 2024 season approaches, all eyes will be on Ferguson to see if he can elevate his game once again and help guide Dallas to a successful campaign.
