Samantha Cope shared a cryptic message about “loss” and “freedom” on Instagram before filing for divorce from Joey Lawrence after two years of marriage. The couple shares a 19-month-old daughter, Dylan.
Bollywood Fever: Samantha Cope, estranged wife of actor Joey Lawrence, shared a cryptic message about “loss” and “freedom” on Instagram just before filing for divorce from the Blossom star.
In a post dated June 11, Cope, 37, shared a passage from Brianna Wiest’s 101 Essays That Will Change the Way You Think, which spoke about the concept of losing something that might actually be a form of “freedom.” The quote read,
“Not everything you lose is a loss. Some things are a freedom. Some things are a second chance. Some things are a miracle in disguise. Some things are a detachment long-needed, a clarity brought to blurry eyes.”
The message continued with reflections on how loss can sometimes be a form of “vital guidance,” even if it initially feels devastating.
The cryptic nature of the post, combined with the timing, left fans speculating about Cope’s state of mind ahead of her decision to end her marriage.
Alongside the quote, Cope posted a series of photos featuring herself and her 19-month-old daughter, Dylan, who she shares with Lawrence, 48.
The images captured sweet moments between mother and daughter, notably absent was any sign of Lawrence. “Favs lately ⛅️ #summer #memories #babygirl #thankful,” Cope captioned the post.
Us Weekly confirmed on August 22 that Cope had filed for divorce, citing June as the couple’s date of separation. In the court documents, Cope requested sole physical custody of Dylan, allowing Lawrence to have visitation rights of up to two nights per week once their daughter turns three. Additionally, Cope requested to block the court from awarding spousal support.
The couple first met on the set of Lifetime’s My Husband’s Secret Brother after Lawrence’s split from his previous wife, Chandie Yawn-Nelson, with whom he shares two daughters, Charleston, 18, and Liberty, 14. Lawrence and Cope were engaged in August 2021, married in May 2022, and welcomed their daughter Dylan in January 2023.
The news of their divorce has come as a surprise to many, especially after the couple’s joyful announcement following Dylan’s birth. “Mom, Dad, and big sisters are all so smitten with you sweet girl!” they shared on Instagram.
“We welcomed her into this world with the most amazing midwife, everyone is happy and healthy, and we are overjoyed with gratitude.”
The reasons behind the split remain unclear, but Cope’s cryptic message hints at a period of introspection and personal growth leading up to the decision.
