Bollywood Fever: John Legend recently shared that his 8-year-old daughter, Luna, feels a unique connection to U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris. Luna, the eldest child of the Grammy-winning artist and Chrissy Teigen, shares a similar Black and Asian heritage with Harris. This shared identity has made Luna see part of herself in the nation’s second-highest officeholder.
“[Luna] is so excited to see someone who’s Black and Asian like she is, [and] a woman like she is — so she’s looking at [Kamala] like, ‘This is me’ up there,” Legend told The Hollywood Reporter. He emphasized how inspiring it is for Luna to see someone who reflects her identity in such a significant position of power.
Legend, who will perform at a private event during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, has been an active supporter of Democratic candidates. He mentioned that his family, which includes sons Miles and Wren and daughter Esti, has had the opportunity to visit the White House and meet Harris on several occasions. In June, Chrissy Teigen even moderated an event on reproductive rights with the Vice President.
Expressing his excitement over Harris being the Democratic presidential nominee, Legend remarked, “I think the change at the top of the ticket was needed to get the excitement that we have right now. And you can just feel the rush of mobilization and involvement… I’m truly grateful to President Biden for making that sacrifice.”
Legend praised President Biden for his decision to step down, allowing a new generation to lead, describing it as a graceful and patriotic act. He believes this change has inspired many people and is a beautiful example of leadership.
