The former NBA star and his former alleged mistress, “Flash” actress Candice Patton, recently revealed they had a baby boy together, years after their affair became public.
Patton, 36, shared the news on Instagram on Friday, posting photos of her newborn’s feet along with a tattooed hand holding the baby. She captioned the post, “Son in Virgo. Born at home. Heart now beats outside of my chest. In love forevermore 💕👣,” without identifying the baby’s father. However, a joint Instagram post from Smith and Patton the following day featured photos of the newborn, though his face was covered by emojis.
The baby’s arrival comes as a surprise to fans, many of whom remember the public fallout from Smith and Patton’s affair, which was exposed by J.R.’s wife Shirley in 2019. Fans expressed shock in the comments of a blog post about the announcement. “Wow! Had a baby by the woman he cheated on his wife with,” one fan remarked. Others recalled Shirley’s viral Instagram video from years ago, in which she prayed for her husband and Patton after learning of the affair.
Shirley and J.R., who married in 2016, share two daughters, Dakota, 7, and Denver, 4. J.R. also has another child from a previous relationship, while Shirley has one child from a prior relationship as well.
In 2019, Shirley publicly addressed the affair, praying for healing for both her husband and Patton. “For her to go out here, Lord Father God, and seek a married man, Father God, I just pray that you give her grace and mercy through all of this,” she said at the time. J.R. responded by revealing the two had been separated for months, though they are still legally married.
