Julia Louis-Dreyfus dismisses comparisons between Vice President Kamala Harris and her Veep character Selina Meyer, emphasizing the fictional nature of the HBO series.

Bollywood Fever: Julia Louis-Dreyfus is putting an end to the comparisons between Vice President Kamala Harris and her fictional character, Selina Meyer, from the HBO comedy series Veep.

In a recent interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the actress highlighted why the two are not alike, despite their seemingly similar career trajectories. “People might need reminding that Selina Meyer and Kamala Harris are not alike,” Louis-Dreyfus explained. On Veep, I played a narcissistic, megalomaniac sociopath, and that is not Kamala Harris. It might be another candidate in the race…”

Colbert further engaged Louis-Dreyfus by asking which Veep character she would compare to Republican Vice Presidential nominee JD Vance. Louis-Dreyfus humorously responded, “That would be Jonah Ryan.”

In Veep, Jonah Ryan, portrayed by Timothy Simons, is a power-hungry White House aide who eventually becomes Vice President of the United States, only to be impeached later. Colbert playfully referenced unfounded rumors about Vance by asking, “Can you imagine Jonah being sexually attracted to an ottoman, or something like that?” Louis-Dreyfus quipped, “I think you mean a couch. And I’m sure he’s made love to many a couches.”

The conversation also touched on the surge in viewership for Veep after President Joe Biden announced he would not seek a second term and Kamala Harris became the Democratic nominee. Despite the show’s renewed popularity, Louis-Dreyfus and the series creator, Armando Iannucci, reminded fans that Veep is entirely fictional.

One fan humorously recalled a storyline where the presidency falls to Harris, leading to a tie in the Electoral College and the Senate choosing JD Vance as President. Iannucci quoted the fan’s post, adding, “Don’t forget we made all that up, though.”
