The Kansas City Chiefs trimmed their roster, cutting young talents like Irv Smith Jr., Justyn Ross, and Louis Rees-Zammit ahead of the 53-man roster deadline.

Bollywood Fever: As the 53-man roster deadline approached, the Kansas City Chiefs made significant moves, cutting several young offensive players on Tuesday to meet the roster limit.

Among the notable cuts were former college football standouts tight end Irv Smith Jr. and wide receiver Justyn Ross, along with former rugby star and current running back Louis Rees-Zammit.

The release of the two receivers, Smith Jr. and Ross, didn’t come as a major shock to many observers.

The Chiefs’ roster was simply too deep at the receiver position, especially following the acquisition of tight end Peyton Hendershot and the signing of wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster.

These moves pushed Smith Jr. and Ross further down the depth chart, making their cuts more understandable.

For Rees-Zammit, his NFL aspirations have hit a temporary setback. The 23-year-old former rugby star left the sport in January to chase a football career through the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program.

Although he didn’t make the Chiefs’ final roster, Rees-Zammit is expected to continue his development, with a likely spot on the practice squad.

Justyn Ross’s journey to secure a spot on the team ended in disappointment. After a stellar college career at Clemson University, where he won a College Football Playoff National Championship in 2019, Ross struggled to transition to the NFL.

His first two seasons with the Chiefs were marked by limited playing time, culminating in just 53 receiving yards.

As for Irv Smith Jr., his search for stability continues as he looks for his third team in as many years.

After spending his first four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, where he established himself as a reliable backup tight end, Smith Jr. now faces an uncertain future.

The Chiefs have yet to confirm whether any of these players will be brought back to the practice squad, leaving their next steps in the NFL in question.
