John Sykes, the chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, stated that this year’s amazing group of inductees reflects the diverse artists and sounds that define rock & roll.

He added that they are honored that this year’s induction ceremony in New York will coincide with two milestones in music culture, namely the 90th birthday of Willie Nelson and the 50th anniversary of the birth of hip-hop.

“This year’s incredible group of Inductees reflects the diverse artists and sounds that define rock & roll,” John Sykes, chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, said in a statement Wednesday. “We are honored that this November’s Induction Ceremony in New York will coincide with two milestones in music culture; the 90th birthday of Willie Nelson and the 50th anniversary of the birth of hip-hop.”

Several others will also be inducted into the Rock Hall. DJ Kool Herc and Link Wray will receive the Musical Influence Award, while Chaka Khan, Al Kooper, and Bernie Taupin will receive the Musical Excellence Award. The Ahmet Ertegun Award, which recognizes non-performing industry professionals, will be awarded posthumously to Don Cornelius, the creator of Soul Train who passed away in 2012.

Artists must have released their first record 25 years prior to being eligible for induction into the Rock Hall.

Missy Elliott will be inducted in her first year of eligibility and will become the first female rapper to enter the esteemed music organization. She is the 11th rapper to be inducted overall, following artists such as Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Jay-Z, N.W.A., and Eminem.

Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow, and George Michael, who passed away in 2016, will be inducted into the Hall after being nominated for the first time.

Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello, Brad Wilk, Tim Commerford, and Zack de la Rocha will also be inducted, while The Spinners’ inductees include Henry Fambrough, Billy Henderson, Pervis Jackson, Bobbie Smith, and Philippé Wynne.
