Kelsey Mitchell’s Future with Indiana Fever Uncertain as Fans Await Free Agency Decision

Must read

Indiana Fever star Kelsey Mitchell’s contract has ended after her best WNBA season yet. As fans speculate on her next move, will Mitchell re-sign and solidify the team’s top trio with Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston?

WNBA News, BollywoodFever: In 2022, WNBA All-Star Kelsey Mitchell signed a three-year, $618,000 contract with the Indiana Fever after her rookie deal expired.

Now, following a 2024 season in which Mitchell and the Fever were eliminated two games into the playoffs, her contract has officially come to an end.

Fans are anxiously waiting to see if the star guard will re-sign with the team or explore other options in free agency.

The Fever’s future looks promising, with the addition of Caitlin Clark as the No. 1 pick in the 2024 WNBA draft and 2023’s No. 1 pick, Aliyah Boston, already on the roster.

A potential trio of Clark, Mitchell, and Boston could solidify Indiana as a formidable force in the league. However, Kelsey Mitchell’s free agency decision remains the pivotal factor in this vision.

Kelly Krauskopf, who was rehired as the Fever’s President of Basketball Operations following the season, has been vocal about her desire to keep Mitchell as part of Indiana’s core.

“Mitchell is a key piece for the future of the Indiana squad,” Krauskopf said.

The organization has made it clear that they want Mitchell back, but now the question is whether the 28-year-old guard is ready to commit to another chapter with the Fever.

Mitchell’s recent appearance at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, where she was spotted with Clark and Connor McCaffery during the Indiana Pacers preseason matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies, has fueled optimism among fans.

Fever supporters flooded social media with hopeful messages, interpreting her presence as a sign that she plans to re-sign. “This must mean Kelsey is re-signing,” one fan tweeted. Another added, “Kelsey girl, you ain’t going anywhere! Something we love to see for real.

Coming off the best season of her WNBA career, Mitchell has plenty to consider. In 2024, she averaged career-highs of 19.2 points per game on an impressive 46.8% shooting across 40 regular season games.

Her playoff debut with the Fever this season marked the first time the team had clinched a postseason spot since 2016, when franchise legend Tamika Catchings was still with the team.

If Indiana can secure Mitchell’s return, the future looks bright for the Fever, with a roster poised to contend for years to come.
