Argentina’s Senate passes pension reform linked to inflation, challenging President Javier Milei’s austerity measures. The bill’s broad support could spark social backlash if vetoed.
Bollywood Fever: Kerry Washington, known for her iconic role as Olivia Pope on Scandal, emceed the final night of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) on Thursday, creating a memorable and viral moment alongside her former co-star, Tony Goldwyn.
The reunion of the Emmy Award-winning actress with Goldwyn on stage was in honor of Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris, bringing cheers from the thousands of supporters in attendance.
Washington, taking the lead, engaged the crowd by referencing former First Lady Michelle Obama’s call to action. “Just like Michelle Obama told us, let’s do something. Let’s make a video. Everybody take out your phones … we’re gonna make a moment,” Washington urged.
As she prepared to capture the moment on her phone, Goldwyn made a surprise entrance, running onto the stage with her phone in hand, much to the delight of the audience.
Together, Washington and Goldwyn led the crowd in a chant of Harris’ slogan. “When we fight,” they shouted, with the crowd enthusiastically responding, “We win!” The energy in the room soared as Washington asked, “Are you ready for Kamala Harris to win?” The crowd’s applause confirmed their excitement.
Washington concluded the moment by referencing Harris’ famous line, “We did it! ‘We did it, Joe.’ Thank you, Tony.” The duo then shared a playful exchange as Goldwyn asked if he should stay on stage, to which Washington jokingly replied, “No, you gotta go.” As Goldwyn exited the stage, Washington introduced him to the crowd with, “Tony Goldwyn, ladies and gentlemen!”
Earlier in the event, Washington had shared a selfie with Goldwyn from the DNC floor, captioning it, “Giving the people what they want….” Goldwyn reciprocated with a light-hearted snap of Washington jokingly putting her finger in his nose, writing: “Serious business being done with @kerrywashington at #DNCChicago!!!”
Washington and Goldwyn’s on-screen chemistry as Olivia Pope and President Fitzgerald Grant III on Scandal captivated audiences during the show’s seven-season run on ABC from 2012 to 2018. The show, which drew inspiration from former President George H.W. Bush’s press aide Judy Smith, who also served as a co-executive producer, remains a fan favorite. Their reunion at the DNC not only thrilled fans but also underscored the importance of the upcoming election.
