Kevin Bacon Trending On Twitter after his post on TikTok.
The issue of drag bans in the US has gained widespread attention, with Kevin Bacon’s video in protest going viral.
Numerous bills have been introduced in states throughout the country this year, specifically targeting drag performances.
In fact, Tennessee recently passed a law prohibiting “adult cabaret performances” in public areas or places where children might see them. The law extends to “male or female impersonators who provide entertainment that appeals to a prurient interest, or similar entertainers.” Those who violate the law may face misdemeanor or felony charges.
Joining the chorus of voices speaking out against these bans, actor Kevin Bacon has now added his voice to the debate.
On Sunday (23 April), he posted a video of him and his wife, the actor Kyra Sedgwick, dancing to Taylor Swift’s song “Karma” and wearing t-shirts with the slogan “Drag is an art and drag is a right”.
In the caption to the video, which has been watched 1.3 million times at the time of writing, Bacon wrote: “Drag bans are bad karma. Right now, drag performers and the LGBTQIA+ community need our help.
