Kirk Herbstreit reviews his College Football Playoff prediction on the “Pat McAfee Show” after Florida State’s shocking Week Zero loss to Georgia Tech.
Bollywood Fever: Kirk Herbstreit recently appeared on the “Pat McAfee Show,” where he took a moment to revisit his College Football Playoff predictions following a surprising Week Zero outcome.
Herbstreit initially made his prediction after the “College GameDay” panel analyzed the Florida State Seminoles’ matchup against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. While Georgia Tech wasn’t on his playoff radar, the preseason No. 10-ranked Seminoles were among his picks to make the playoff.

However, Florida State suffered a shocking 24-21 loss to Georgia Tech, with the Yellow Jackets clinching the victory on a game-winning field goal. The defeat prompted Herbstreit to reconsider his confidence in the Seminoles’ playoff chances.
“I’m worried about my ten seed there,” Herbstreit admitted. “I have Florida State at 10. We’re off to an 0-1 start.”
Florida State now faces a crucial opportunity to secure their first win of the 2024-25 college football season against the Boston College Eagles on September 2. The Seminoles will host their ACC rival in what is already shaping up to be a must-win game.
After their matchup with Boston College, Florida State’s schedule eases up, giving them a chance to build momentum before facing tougher opponents like the No. 14 Clemson Tigers and No. 19 Miami Hurricanes in October. The Seminoles will first take on Memphis, California, and SMU, potentially allowing them to improve their record.
Last season, Florida State was one of the most talked-about teams, especially after the College Football Playoff committee controversially excluded them from the postseason despite an undefeated 12-0 regular season and an ACC Championship win.
This season was supposed to be the year for Florida State to prove they are National Title contenders. While head coach Mike Norvell and his team faltered in Week Zero, there’s still time to climb back into the playoff picture. Nevertheless, Herbstreit remains concerned about the Seminoles’ prospects moving forward.
