BollywoodFever: The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly exploring the addition of 7-foot center Christian Koloko to solidify their frontcourt, following his recent release from the Toronto Raptors.Â
According to NBA insider Shams Charania, Koloko is eyeing a comeback, and the Lakers are seen as frontrunners to sign him.
Koloko, drafted 33rd overall in the 2022 NBA Draft, showed promise in his rookie season, averaging 3.1 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks over 58 games.
His potential career was disrupted by a significant blood clot issue, leading to his waiver by the Raptors. Currently, Koloko awaits clearance from the NBA’s Fitness-to-Play Panel, which will determine his eligibility for the upcoming season.
The Lakers’ frontcourt already features talent like Anthony Davis, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Christian Wood.
However, with Wood recovering from knee surgery and Vanderbilt dealing with foot problems, Koloko’s addition could provide essential depth.
Davis has expressed his preference for playing alongside another big man, making Koloko’s defensive abilities even more appealing.
During his time with the Raptors, Koloko showcased strong defensive potential, finishing his rookie season with the best net rating among teammates who played at least 30 games.
His shot-blocking and defensive presence could allow Davis more freedom and reduce his need to guard multiple positions.
If the Lakers successfully sign Koloko, the move could solidify their frontcourt as they prepare for the upcoming season and intensify their championship pursuit.
With fierce competition in the Western Conference, adding Koloko could be a strategic boost to the Lakers’ lineup.
