The 48-year-old actress, known for her role as Mandy Dingle on the popular ITV soap, opened up about her past struggles during an appearance on Thursday’s Lorraine show.
Speaking candidly with host Ranvir Singh, Lisa, who has been sober for nine years, admitted, “I prefer me now that I’m sober. I was self-medicating with alcohol after losing my mum. A bottle and a half, two bottles of Malbec helped with those times. It was a game I played.” Lisa’s mother passed away from cancer in 2012, and the actress previously expressed regret over not spending more quality time with her during her illness, attributing it to her partying lifestyle.
In happier news, Lisa recently confirmed that she has signed a “long-term” contract with Emmerdale, ensuring her continued presence on the show. “I’ve just signed a new long contract, and I’m very happy,” she told Woman’s Weekly magazine. “Paddy and Mandy bring such joy to the show – you can rely on the fact that they’re going to bring you that sprinkle of fun, and I love that. It’s 25 years since they married the first time, and I’d like to think that I’ll still be in the show in another 25 years – I absolutely love it.”
