Luana Alonso, Olympic swimmer, stirs social media with a racy selfie following her controversial exit from the Paris Games, where she allegedly created an ‘inappropriate atmosphere.’
Bollywood Fever: Glamorous Olympic swimmer Luana Alonso has caused a stir on social media, sharing a provocative selfie after reportedly being removed from the Olympic village for allegedly creating an ‘inappropriate atmosphere’ with her behavior.
The 20-year-old athlete, who went viral during the Paris Games, became more famous for her sudden exit from the French capital than for her performance, as she failed to qualify for the semi-finals in the 100m butterfly event.
Alonso’s departure from the Olympic village has sparked speculation, with reports suggesting that team officials were concerned about her behavior, which included distracting teammates, scheduling trips around Paris, and choosing to wear her own outfits instead of the team’s uniforms.
Addressing the rumors, Alonso posted a message on social media, stating that she “didn’t want to make a statement” but also wouldn’t let “the lies affect” her. Following this, she shared a striking selfie with her 1.2 million Instagram followers, showing herself in a bikini top with a towel wrapped around her waist. The image, captioned “life been good,” was part of a series that included another selfie, a shot of food, and a cat.
Throughout the competition and beyond, Alonso has regularly shared glimpses of her life on Instagram, from poolside photos to her adventures away from swimming. In August, she posted pictures from Qatar, including a bikini-clad jet-ski ride and a camel ride.
Alongside the racy selfie, Alonso also shared a video of herself enjoying a view from a golf cart, seemingly accompanied by a friend. She later posted a photo of herself back in the gym, signaling a return to competitive mode despite having announced her retirement from swimming after the Paris Games.
Alonso, who previously competed at the collegiate level for Southern Methodist University and Virginia Tech, expressed her gratitude for swimming in a heartfelt post two weeks ago. Reflecting on her journey, she wrote, “Swimming: thank you for allowing me to dream, you taught me to fight, to try, perseverance, sacrifice, discipline and many more… It’s not goodbye, it’s see you soon.”
The exact reasons for Alonso’s early departure from the Olympic village remain unclear. While the Paraguay Olympic Committee insisted that the decision to leave was Alonso’s own, they acknowledged that her behavior made other athletes and the delegation feel uncomfortable. Speaking to Le Parisien last week, they confirmed that Alonso left voluntarily, adding to the ongoing mystery surrounding her exit from the Games.
