A devoted Madonna fan has reportedly initiated legal action against the Queen of Pop, accusing her of exposing Celebration Tour concertgoers to “pornography without warning,” according to Page Six.
Several outlets reported on Thursday that Justen Lipeles, who attended Madonna’s show in Inglewood, California, in March, sued the Like a Virgin singer because he found the concert overly sexual. He alleged that the audience was “forced to watch topless women on stage simulating sex acts.”
Videos circulating online from the Celebration Tour have depicted Madonna’s dancers performing lap dances onstage, and even apparently causing an erection from Ricky Martin during a Miami show in April.
Lipeles stated, “Forcing consumers to wait hours in hot, uncomfortable arenas and subjecting them to pornography without warning is demonstrative of Madonna’s flippant disrespect for her fans.”
Bollywood Fever reached out to Madonna’s representatives for comment but did not immediately receive a response.
For decades, the B***h I’m Madonna singer has cultivated a provocative image through her music, performances, and interviews. She even authored a best-selling coffee table book titled “Sex” in 1994.
Lipeles reportedly claims that the overly-sexualized show was not the sole reason for his lawsuit. He also accused the Frozen singer, 65, of shutting off the air conditioning inside the stadium, which allegedly caused him and other fans to sweat profusely. He purportedly fell ill at one point.
If Lipeles’ account is accurate, it would not be the first time that Madonna has reportedly requested to turn down the AC during a concert. Fox reported in April that she made a similar request during a Miami show.
Lipeles claimed that when fans expressed their discomfort over the heat at the show he attended, the Ray of Light singer allegedly told the crowd to take their clothes off.
The concertgoer, who is suing Madonna and promoter Live Nation for six counts including breach of written contract, negligent misrepresentation, emotional distress, and false advertising, according to The Blast, also claimed he was misled about the show’s start time.
Lipeles reportedly is upset that the concert, which was supposed to start at 8:30 PM local time, did not begin until 10 PM. He also alleged that the Like a Prayer singer lip-synced her performance once she took the stage.
Other disgruntled Madonna fans have made similar complaints in the past. The 4 Minutes singer was also sued over the late start of her show in 2020 and more recently for false advertising in January after starting her concerts in Brooklyn, New York, two hours late.
In April, the Material Girl attempted to get the latest case dismissed, with her attorneys stating, “No reasonable concertgoers — and certainly no Madonna fan — would expect the headline act at a major arena concert to take the stage at the ticketed event time.
“A reasonable concertgoer would understand that the venue’s doors will open at or before the ticketed time, one or more opening acts may perform while attendees arrive and make their way to their seats, and the headline act will take the stage later in the evening.”
