Must read

Marc Marquez secures his eighth pole at the Aragon Grand Prix, dominating with a performance 0.8 seconds faster than rookie Pedro Acosta. Championship leader Francesco Bagnaia completes the front row.

Bollywood Fever: Six-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez delivered a masterclass performance to secure his eighth pole position at the Aragon Grand Prix on Saturday.

The 31-year-old Spaniard was in a league of his own, clocking a time that was eight-tenths of a second faster than fellow Spaniard and Red Bull GasGas Tech3’s 20-year-old rookie, Pedro Acosta.

The front row was completed by twice MotoGP champion and current world championship leader, Francesco Bagnaia.

This latest pole marks the 94th of Marquez’s illustrious career and his second of the season, reinforcing his status as one of the sport’s all-time greats.

“I feel super good and this is the most important,” Marquez said following his dominant qualifying session. “It’s true that the eight-tenths looks a lot, but we cannot forget that in other race tracks I was eight-tenths behind the pole. Now we need to manage our confidence and keep the same mentality because the track is quite slippery, and it’s easy to make mistakes. So, let’s see if we can concentrate in a good way.”

Championship contender Jorge Martin experienced a challenging session, finishing fourth after an early crash in the second qualifying session in Alcaniz. Meanwhile, Marc’s brother and teammate, Alex Marquez, secured a strong fifth place.

It was a frustrating day for Enea Bastianini, who is currently third in the championship standings.

The Italian Ducati rider struggled in the first qualifying session, finishing fourth and setting himself up for a difficult race weekend. Bastianini will start 14th in Saturday’s sprint and Sunday’s race.

As the riders prepare for the sprint and main race, all eyes will be on Marc Marquez to see if he can convert his pole position into a victory at his home Grand Prix, further adding to his legacy in the sport.
