The investigation into Matthew Perry’s death is concluding, with several individuals linked to his acquisition of the lethal ketamine dose found in his system. Prosecutors to decide on charges soon.
Bollywood Fever: The investigation into the death of actor Matthew Perry is coming to a close, with multiple individuals linked to his acquisition of the lethal amount of ketamine found in his blood, according to a recent report.
The Los Angeles Times reported on Wednesday that two law enforcement sources confirmed the investigation is nearing its end. Prosecutors will soon determine if charges will be filed against those connected to Perry’s procurement of the dissociative anesthetic. The publication spoke with a law enforcement source not authorized to discuss the probe, who indicated that several people have been linked to Perry’s acquisition of the drug.
Since May, the investigation has included detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the U.S. Postal Service. The investigators have been tracing how the actor acquired the illegal drug, which has been used recreationally for decades but has recently shown promise in treating depression.
Perry’s body was discovered by an assistant after he drowned in his swimming pool’s hot tub at his Pacific Palisades home on October 28. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office stated that the lethal dose of ketamine caused cardiovascular overstimulation and respiratory depression, leading to his death. The amount of ketamine found in his blood was comparable to what is used during general anesthesia. The medical examiner listed the acute effects of the drug as the primary cause of death, with drowning, coronary artery disease, and the effects of buprenorphine (a drug used to treat opioid addiction) as contributing factors.
Although friends confirmed that Perry was undergoing ketamine therapy, his last session had been a week and a half before his death, according to the Medical Examiner’s report. This does not account for the high levels of the drug found in his system at the time of his death, as ketamine metabolizes within a few hours. Officials noted that no other drugs were found in Perry’s system, and no drug paraphernalia was discovered in his home.
The Medical Examiner’s report stated that Perry was being treated by a psychiatrist and an anesthesiologist, who also served as his primary care physician, in October.
As the investigation concludes, the focus will be on whether charges will be filed against those linked to providing Perry with the ketamine that led to his tragic death.
