Matthew Perry’s stepfather, Keith Morrison, expresses heartbreak and gratitude as authorities charge five individuals in connection with the actor’s tragic death in October 2023.
Bollywood Fever: Matthew Perry’s stepfather, Keith Morrison, has spoken out following the announcement that five individuals have been charged in connection with the Friends star’s untimely death in October 2023.
The Morrison family released a statement expressing their ongoing grief and appreciation for the diligent efforts of law enforcement in the investigation.
“We were and still are heartbroken by Matthew’s death, but it has helped to know law enforcement has taken his case very seriously,” the family shared. “We look forward to justice taking its course and we’re grateful for the exceptional work of the multiple agencies whose agents investigated Matthew’s death. We’re hoping unscrupulous suppliers of dangerous drugs will get the message.”
Perry died on October 28, 2023, due to the acute effects of the anesthetic ketamine, as revealed by an autopsy in December.
On Thursday, law enforcement agencies in Los Angeles announced the indictment and charging of five individuals in connection with Perry’s death.
The charged parties include Perry’s live-in assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa; doctors Salvador Plasencia and Mark Chavez; street drug dealer Erik Fleming; and Jasveen Sangha, known as the “ketamine queen.”
Authorities uncovered what they described as a “broad underground criminal network” responsible for Perry’s death. U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada commented at the press conference, “These defendants took advantage of Mr. Perry’s addiction issues to enrich themselves. They knew what they were doing was wrong.”
Morrison, who married Perry’s mother Suzanne Perry in 1981, has previously opened up about the immense loss the family has felt since the actor’s passing.
In an emotional interview on the Making Space podcast in March, Morrison reflected on the difficulty of coping with Perry’s death, particularly for Perry’s mother. “It’s with you every day. It’s with you all the time,” he said.
Morrison also shared that Perry and his mother had grown closer in the months leading up to his death, texting each other frequently and sharing personal details. “Toward the end of his life, they were closer than I had seen them for decades,” Morrison revealed.
Reflecting on Perry’s larger-than-life personality, Morrison added that the actor’s presence is still deeply felt. “I can still feel the echo of it everywhere around here,” he said.
As the legal process unfolds, the Morrison family remains hopeful that justice will be served, bringing some closure to a painful chapter in their lives.
