Megan Thee Stallion electrifies the MTV VMAs with nods to iconic moments, costume changes, and performances from her latest album. Read how she honored Britney Spears and performed alongside Japanese rapper Yuki Chiba.
Rapper Megan Thee Stallion brought her high energy and charm as the host of Wednesday night’s MTV Video Music Awards. The 29-year-old star opened the show in a one-shoulder leotard, drawing comparisons to an Olympic gymnast. She gave a playful shout-out to Houston native and gold medalist Simone Biles, joking that Biles let her borrow the outfit with a few tweaks. I deserve a gold medal for being a bad bitch,” Megan quipped.
The night was all about celebrating 40 years of the VMAs, highlighting iconic moments from the past. Megan joined in the nostalgia, taking the stage with a live snake in tribute to Britney Spears’ unforgettable 2001 performance. Dressed in Spears’ famous outfit, Megan held the snake briefly before lightheartedly asking the crew to take it away. “I’m just playing. Come get this snake,” she laughed. “I don’t know this snake, this snake don’t know me,” she added as handlers removed the animal. “I tried to hold it down for Britney.”
Megan wowed the audience with a medley of her songs, including “BOA,” “B.A.S,” and “HISS,” as well as her latest hit single “Mamushi” from her recent album Megan. In a special moment, she brought out Japanese rapper Yuki Chiba, who features on the track. Mid-song, Megan excitedly introduced him to the crowd, shouting, “All the way from Japan for the first time, Yuki!
Throughout the night, Megan switched up her outfits, one of which included her look from the recent Gladiator II-inspired Pepsi commercial. The ad campaign, which blends music, sports, and entertainment, features Megan alongside NFL stars Josh Allen, Derrick Henry, and Justin Jefferson. The commercial is part of Pepsi’s ongoing Gladiator-themed series, following the famous 2004 Super Bowl Roman Empire ad that starred Beyoncé, Spears, and Pink.
