Meghan King discusses her son Hart’s new mood disorder diagnosis and how her sustainable activewear line, the Harty Collection, supports his care. Proceeds go towards his therapies.
Bollywood Fever: Meghan King, former star of The Real Housewives of Orange County, is sharing new details about her 5-year-old son Hart’s health as she navigates life with his cerebral palsy and a recently diagnosed mood disorder.
In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, King, 39, opened up about her son’s condition and the importance of breaking the stigma surrounding psychiatric diagnoses in children.
While promoting her new activewear line, the Harty Collection—named after her son’s nickname—King explained how the limited edition collection will contribute to Hart’s ongoing care.
The proceeds from the collection will help cover the costs of the therapies he needs to manage his new diagnosis.
“My son Hart has cerebral palsy, which I have talked about. And he knows he has cerebral palsy, but there’s other things that have come up and I’ve just been trying to kind of figure out what that’s been,” King shared.
She explained that Hart’s needs fall under the neurodivergent category, making it challenging to navigate and articulate what he requires.
King, who shares twin sons Hart and Hayes, and daughter Aspyn with ex-husband Jim Edmonds, emphasized the importance of raising awareness about psychiatric issues in children.
“These mental diagnoses are becoming more prevalent among children. By talking about it with the world, I’m helping to break a stigma,” she noted, pointing out that while society has made strides in discussing adult mental health, the same understanding hasn’t fully extended to children.
Now that Hart has received a diagnosis, King expressed her relief, acknowledging that while it doesn’t change who her son is, it does improve his access to the necessary resources. “I’m a mom of action and I’ve always have been,” she said. “We’re always trying to get to the heart of the matter and the heart of the truth.”
King’s commitment to her son’s care is reflected in the Harty Collection, which has been a year in the making.
Designed with sustainability and accessibility in mind, the collection features items like leggings, hoodies, and sports bras priced between $45 and $62.
The collection is available on SewSewYou.com until Tuesday, September 3.
By combining her passion for sustainability with her dedication to her son’s well-being, Meghan King is not only supporting Hart but also helping other parents navigate similar challenges.
