Meryem Uzerli is a Turkish-German actress and model who rose to prominence by playing Hürrem Sultan in the Turkish TV series Muhteşem Yüzyıl (2011–2013), for which she received critical acclaim and won numerous accolades, including a Golden Butterfly Award.

She was born on August 12, 1983, in Kassel, West Germany.

She made her acting debut with minor parts in German productions.

Career Of Meryem Uzerli

Meryem Uzerli rose to fame with her breakout role as Hürrem Sultan in the historical television drama series “Muhteşem Yüzyıl,” directed by the Taylan Brothers. After an extensive search, she was selected by Meral Okay, the series’ screenwriter, and Timur Savcı, the producer. Reflecting on her selection, she mentioned moving to Istanbul almost full-time for the show’s shooting, living in a hotel for two years during its production. Meryem Uzerli shared the leading role with Halit Ergenç, Okan Yalabık, and Nebahat Çehre, earning recognition for her outstanding portrayal and receiving the Golden Butterfly Award for Best Actress in 2012.

In 2013, due to health concerns, she left the series after episode 102, and Vahide Perçin took over the role of an older Hürrem Sultan from episode 103 onwards.

Following her success in “Muhteşem Yüzyıl,” Meryem Uzerli signed a contract with O3, the Turkish production company of MBC Group. She expressed her aspirations to build on her international success and find roles with compelling scripts. In March 2015, it was confirmed that she would star alongside Murat Yıldırım in the TV series “Gecenin Kraliçesi,” directed by the Taylan Brothers. Some scenes were filmed in Cannes, France, with the shooting continuing in Rize, Turkey. The series premiered on Star TV in January 2016.

Alongside her television career, Meryem Uzerli appeared in the 2016 cinema movie “Annemin Yarası” with co-stars Ozan Güven, Okan Yalabık, and Belçim Bilgin. She also made guest appearances in the TV series “Eşkiya Dünyaya Hükümdar Olmaz” between 2016 and 2017. In 2017, she starred in “Cingöz Recai” opposite Kenan İmirzalıoğlu, and later that year, she played a leading role alongside Özcan Deniz and Aslı Enver in the movie “Öteki Taraf.”

In 2019, Meryem Uzerli auditioned for a role in the third season of the Netflix original series “Dark.” She also took on the lead role in the movie “Kovan,” with proceeds from the film being donated to Haluk Levent’s Ahbap foundation.
