Florida State head coach Mike Norvell discusses the team’s missed opportunities, mistakes, and the decision to replace quarterback D.J. with Brock Glenn in the fourth quarter following a disappointing loss to SMU.
BollywoodFever: Florida State head coach Mike Norvell addressed the media after his team’s disappointing loss to SMU, focusing on the mistakes made on the field and his decision to replace quarterback D.J. with Brock Glenn in the fourth quarter.
Opening Statement
Norvell began by congratulating SMU for their strong performance, while acknowledging the frustration within his own team. “First of all, congratulations to SMU, great performance by them. Obviously, very disappointing on our end. Coming into the game, we had a lot of confidence and I thought our guys would respond,” Norvell said. “The first half, we had opportunities that we weren’t able to capitalize on. When things didn’t go well for us, we did not respond like we needed to.”
Norvell emphasized that the team needs to make a choice about their identity and how they respond in challenging moments, saying, “We’ve got to make a choice as a football program of what we’re willing to allow ourselves to look like in the course of a game.”
Quarterback Change: D.J. Benched, Brock Glenn Enters
When asked about benching quarterback D.J. in the fourth quarter and replacing him with freshman Brock Glenn, Norvell did not rule out future changes at the position. “I’m thinking about everything today. If one of those young guys shows that they’re going to be the best option and opportunity for this offense, I will make the change.”
This decision indicates that Norvell is keeping an open mind about the future of the quarterback position as the season progresses.
