Miley Cyrus faces a lawsuit accusing her of copying Bruno Mars’ 2013 song “When I Was Your Man” in her 2023 hit “Flowers.” Learn about the legal claims and what’s next.
BollywoodFever: Pop superstar Miley Cyrus is facing a legal battle over her 2023 chart-topping hit “Flowers,” with accusations that she copied elements of Bruno Mars’ 2013 song “When I Was Your Man.”
Tempo Music Investments, which reportedly holds shares of the copyright for Mars’ track, claims that “Flowers” bears significant similarities to Mars’ earlier hit. According to a lawsuit reported by TMZ, the company alleges that the harmony, melody, chord progressions, and lyrics of both songs are strikingly alike.
The lawsuit reportedly states, “It is undeniable based on the combination and number of similarities between the two recordings that ‘Flowers’ would not exist without ‘When I Was Your Man’.” Tempo Music is seeking damages and wants a ban on Cyrus distributing or performing the track.
Notably, Bruno Mars himself is not involved in the lawsuit, and neither he nor Cyrus has publicly commented on the allegations.
