Mississippi State head coach Jeff Lebby discusses his approach to preparing QB Van Buren for the upcoming game against No. 1 Texas, highlighting the need for a strong run game and focus on their own performance.
BollywoodFever: Mississippi State head coach Jeff Lebby addressed the media this week, sharing his strategy for preparing quarterback Van Buren to face the top-ranked Texas team, and his thoughts on their upcoming challenge.
On Preparing Van Buren to Face Texas
Lebby emphasized the importance of keeping things simple for his quarterback. “You get him to focus incredibly small,” Lebby said. “We need to find ways to put him in a position for success. Building on last week’s run game is crucial to giving him good situations. That will be key for us to start fast.”
On Facing Texas
When asked about the strength of the Texas team, Lebby praised their dominance in all aspects of the game. “Defensively, they’re as good as there is in America, giving up five points a game. Offensively, they’ve got a ton of skill and are playing well up front. Regardless of who their quarterback is, both can run Sark’s offense effectively.”
Lebby also acknowledged the tough challenge but framed it as a great opportunity. It’s a football team playing as well as anyone in the country. What an unbelievable opportunity for us to see how we’re going to respond,” he added. “Our focus is on us—our energy, toughness, effort, and getting ready to roll.”
